Day 2
We are looking at why we need salvation and what God has done to save us.
(Romans 6:23) “the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” You earn wages, and what is earned from sin is death, both physical and spiritual, resulting in separation from God. But a gift is freely given and needs only to be received. God’s gift that frees us from spiritual death is Jesus Christ, accepting His death as the penalty for our own sin.
2 Peter 3:9 says that God is longsuffering toward us and that He is not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance. Repent means to change your mind and turn away from sin. God wants everyone to be saved, also called ‘being reconciled to God,’ establishing that relationship with God that He wants us to have.
Romans 5:8 tells us that God showed His own love for us by sending his son to pay the penalty for our sin by dying in our place. This also turned aside God’s wrath that is directed at sin. God didn’t wait for us to “get our act together” because we couldn’t. We owed a debt we couldn’t pay, He paid a debt He didn’t owe, and by accepting that sacrifice we are reconciled to God.
Prayer: Gracious Heavenly Father, thank you for sending Jesus to pay the penalty for my sin and to turn away Your wrath. Thank You that through Him I am saved and can have a relationship with You. I confess Jesus as my savior and acknowledge my dependence on Him to keep me from sin and to help me grow stronger in my faith. Thank You for the Holy Spirit who dwells in me, convicts me of sin, and leads me into all truth. Thank You that I am Your child, through Jesus Christ, my savior and Lord. Amen
