Day 4
We have reviewed why we need to be saved. Now let’s look at what that salvation means.
Romans 5:1 says that because we have been justified (just-if-I’d never sinned) by faith, we now have peace with God through Jesus Christ our Lord. Because we are justified by faith, we are reconciled to God. To be reconciled means to be restored to friendship. As a sinner you were an enemy of God, but now that you are saved from your sin, you are reconciled to God and no longer an enemy but a friend. This friendship with God brings peace.
John 1:12 tells us that anyone who receives Jesus and believes on Him, He gives them the authority to become children of God. Because you have received Jesus into your life, you are now a child of God, a part of God’s family.
According to Colossians 1:13-14, you have been rescued from the power of darkness and brought into the kingdom of the Son through whom you have redemption or the forgiveness of sins. You have been redeemed, which means that your defect caused by sin has been compensated for by the sacrifice of Jesus. You owed a debt you couldn’t pay (the penalty for your sin), He paid a debt He didn’t owe (the penalty for your sin), so now you have been redeemed and your sins forgiven.
Jesus said, as recorded in John 5:24, that because you believe in Him, you have everlasting life.
We are told in 1 John 5:13 that you may know you have eternal life. You don’t just hope that you have eternal life, you know it because Jesus promised it.
Jesus says in John 15:7-9 that if you abide in Him and His words abide in you, you can ask Him what you will, and it will be done. He stated further that God is glorified when you bear much fruit. To abide here means to stay continually. Abiding in Him is how we produce fruit, and the fruit that we produce is found in Galatians 5:22-23: love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. As you grow in your faith, the fruit of the Spirit becomes more manifest in your life, and that glorifies God.
Prayer: Lord, thank You for all Your promises that are mine through Jesus. Help me to continually produce the fruit of the Spirit as You work in my life to make me more and more into the person You want me to be. Help me to glorify You as I abide in Jesus. Amen
