Day 1

Let’s look at some verses to review why we need salvation. The Bible translation used here is the New King James Version (NKJV).

(Romans 3:21-23) “all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” Everyone is a sinner. Sin means “to miss the mark,” like aiming for the bull’s eye but missing it. The mark we miss is living up to the standard God set for us, which is being like Him. We were created in God’s image to have a relationship with Him, but because we decide to go our own way instead of God’s way, we are alienated from God, from each other, and from all God has for us. And going our own way has consequences.

(Romans 6:23) “the wages of sin is death…” You earn wages, and what is earned from sin is death, both physical and spiritual, resulting in separation from God.

(Ezekiel 18:20) “The soul who sins shall die.” Because we all sin, we all die. Death, both spiritual and physical, was not a part of God’s plan but resulted from rebelling against God.

(Romans 3:10) “There is none that is righteous, no, not one.” Our sin makes us incapable of being what God wants us to be. Although we can do righteous acts, we are not able to BE righteous because our very nature is corrupted. While we don’t inherit the guilt of Adam, the first man who sinned, we inherit a corrupted nature, so we end up following Adam’s example of disobeying God.

(Isaiah 64:6) “we are all like an unclean thing, and all our righteousness are like filthy rags; we all fade as a leaf, and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away.” Even the very best that we do is not good enough. We can’t help ourselves; we can’t save ourselves, and we are unable to have a relationship with God because of our sin. But God doesn’t leave us like that.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank You that You love me and accepted me the way I was in spite of my sin. Thank You that you saved me and are changing me into the person You want me to be. I surrender myself again to You. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.
